Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset , or DaRT for short , formerly known as ERD Commander from Winternals , is a mini operating system environment that was bought and further developed by Microsoft and can be booted from CD or DVD, in which tools for system repair or recovery are made available to the user . The DaRT started from CD / DVD establishes contact with the host system installed on the hard disk in order to read out the defective system and repair it if necessary.

The DaRT, in turn, is an integral part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack , or MDOP for short , which Microsoft offers its volume license customers with Software Assurance as an annual software rental. The DaRT cannot be purchased separately. For interested users, Microsoft offers a 30-day demo version of the DaRT for download on its homepage.

For each client operating system generation (XP, Vista etc.) Microsoft offers a corresponding DaRT version almost simultaneously, which is based on the kernel of the underlying system. The current versions are:

DaRT 5.0 - a Windows XP based mini XP, for solving system problems with Windows XP. The tools are operated or called up like with a conventional Windows XP via the desktop and the start menu.

DaRT 6.0 - a Windows PE based on Windows Vista for troubleshooting system problems with Windows Vista.

DaRT 6.5 or DaRT 7.0 - for solving system problems with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

DaRT 8.0 - to fix system problems with Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

DaRT 8.1 - for troubleshooting system problems with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
