Diakonicon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A diakonicon (plural: diakonika) means:

  • a side altar, which is especially used by deacons for their readings.
  • an adjoining room of church buildings in the Christian Orient, which can be compared with the western sacristy .
  • the individual texts that a deacon of the Eastern Churches recites in the service, provided that he does not act as a reader of biblical readings ( pericopes ), such as the Gospel.
  • the liturgical book, in which the texts of the divine "role" of a deacon, the "diakonika", are recorded (also called "hierodiakonicon"). For the sake of clarity, the latter is often referred to in liturgical science as “diaconals” (plural: diakonalien) or “deacon book”.
