The Diana's Peak on the island of St. Helena is with a height of 818 m , the highest mountain on the island. It is of volcanic origin and is located in the Sandy Bay district .
The origin of the name is not clear, but could be related to Diana , the goddess of the hunt . The name Pico de Diana appeared on Portuguese maps of the 17th century .
The surrounding peaks of Mount Actaeon and Cuckold Point are almost nearly as high. He is considered one of the Seven Wonders of St. Helena .
The mountain is located in the "Peaks National Park" (from 1996 to 2013 Diana's Peak National Park ), a national park on the island that was proclaimed in 1993 . It is 0.47 square kilometers. Rare and threatened plants can be found in it. The now extinct species Acalypha rubrinervis , Nesiota elliptica and Wahlenbergia roxburghii also occurred here. In addition, almost 400 invertebrate species have been registered on the peaks, more than half of which are endemic.
