Dick and Dee Dee was an American pop music duo that released several successful records in the 1960s.
biography
The duo was born in 1961 by high school student Dick St. John Gostine, born Richard Gostine in 1944 in Santa Monica , California ; died on December 27, 2003 in Los Angeles and Dee Dee Sperling, born in 1945 as Mary Sperling in Santa Monica, was founded. Before that, Gostin had already worked as a songwriter and sang about some solo records. In 1961, Dick and Dee Dee wanted to release the title The Mountain's High, written by Dick, on record. First they tried it with Dick's record company Rona, but the title did not fit into the program. The small Hollywood label Lama finally agreed to release The Mountain's High as a single . When it became clear that the record would be a success, the major record company Liberty bought the rights to The Mountain's High and released the song along with the title I Want Someone under catalog number 55350 in the summer of 1961. The Mountain's High developed as expected to a great success, on Billboard the title rose to # 2 in the Hot 100 .
The Dou Dick and Dee Dee remained successful in the next few years, until 1965 a total of eight titles were placed in the Hot 100. From October 1962 they released their records on Warner Bros. Records . It was there that her last big hit Thou Shalt Not Steal appeared , which reached number 13 in the Hot 100 in 1964. The last highlight of Dick and Dee Dee's career was touring with the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones in the mid-1960s. In 1968 there was another change to the record label Dot , where the last Dick-and-Dee-Dee single Do I Love You / You Came Back to Haunt Me was released in 1969 .
After that, Dick Gostine and Dee Dee Sperling separated and they both married different partners. Dick later appeared on Revivel shows with his wife, and in 1993 they both wrote the Rock & Roll Cookbook . Dick died on December 27, 2003 as a result of a domestic accident. Dee Dee had already worked as a journalist during her singing career. She published her memoir in 2007 under the title Vinyl Highway . In 2008 she appeared together with Michael Dunn in a revival show with old Dick-and-Dee-Dee songs.
