The children in hunger (original title: the children in hunger ) is a legend . It was only in the second part of the first edition of 1815 (since no.57) in the children's and house fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in place 143 (KHM 143a) and comes from Johannes Praetorius ' collection The adventurous Glückstopf from 1669.

A woman wants to slaughter her older daughter because she is starving. She asks for mercy and gets a piece of bread "without begging" . Then the younger one should turn. She gets two pieces of bread. They persuade the mother to sleep until Judgment Day . Nobody can wake her, but the mother is gone.
