The twelve apostles is the second of ten children's legends in the appendix to the children's and house tales by the Brothers Grimm (KHM 202; ATU 766).

Three hundred years before the birth of Christ, a poor mother has twelve sons whom she has to send one after the other to look for bread. They each meet their little guardian angel , who fulfills their wish to see the Savior . He lulls her to sleep in a magnificent rock cave. You awaken on the night of Jesus' birth and become the twelve apostles .

origin

The story has been included as children's legend No. 2 since the second edition (1819), according to Grimm's comment from the Haxthausen family in Paderbörn . They compare from their German sagas No. 297.
