German legends is a compilation of legends by the Brothers Grimm . It was her second large collection after Children's and Household Tales and appeared in two volumes in the Nicolaische Buchhandlung in 1816 and 1818 . It includes 579 legends from the entire German-speaking area. A second edition appeared posthumously in 1867, the third edition in 1891 was edited by Herman Grimm . A fourth edition followed in 1905 by Reinhold Steig .

One of the best-known sagas, The Pied Piper of Hameln, can be found in the book.
