The publicists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Publicisten is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 321). The work was performed for the first time on February 4, 1868 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was written for the carnival ball of the writers and journalists association Concordia and premiered on the occasion. The name is self-explanatory against this background. Of course, the work was also dedicated to this association. During those years the composer was at the zenith of his work. Some of his best works were created around the same time in the years after 1865. This work, which was also very well received, has its qualities, even if it could not quite keep up with the greatest successes of the composer. It is still occasionally performed at concerts today.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 45 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
