history

The foundation stone for the original memorial was laid on May 29, 1921 in the domed hall of the Royal Bavarian Ministry of Transport on Arnulfstrasse ( Alte Hopfenpost ) in Munich. The memorial was unveiled in 1927. The memorial originally consisted of a marble commemorative plaque embedded in the floor, surrounded by four mourning figures in niches: the girl, the bride, the mother and the widow. They symbolize the mourners of the Bavarian postmen and railroad workers who died in the First World War . Each figure held a branch of laurel in hand. When the ministry building was redesigned in 1973, the figures of girl , mother and widow were placed in a green area of the Federal Railway Directorate in Neuhausen. The figures stand here in a circle, back to back.

At the beginning of 2019 it became known that the bride figure was privately owned in Munich.
