La discorde

The discord (French La Discorde ) is the 20th fable in the sixth book of the collection of fables Fables Choisies, Mises En Vers by Jean de La Fontaine . In this book the poet deals with the subject of discord in connection with living marriage , in his 12th book he then lets the discord take on general dimensions in order to later illustrate the idea of "universal discord" through war.

The fable tells the fate of the goddess discord , who is able to disturb the peace on earth and in heaven with her power. Because she had got the gods to fight over an apple, she was driven from Olympus . The discord was then welcomed with open arms by mankind as it moved from house to house. But the goddess Fama complained that the wandering discord was often impossible to find, she demanded:

“A permanent stay is a necessity,
from where one
can send you among friends and affectionate relatives at any time.
However, because at that time no nunnery was known,
it had its difficulty;
But finally you were assigned
your house in Hymen's paradise. "
