Hermann Hesse

The two brothers is the earliest prose work by Hermann Hesse . The author wrote the fairy tale in 1887 at the age of 10. It was published in Zurich on January 6, 1951.

action

Once upon a time there were two brothers. The older treated the younger, a cripple, badly. That's why the younger moved away from home and made his fortune with diamond mining with the dwarves on the Glasberg. The older brother was wounded in the arm in the war, had to beg, passed the Glasberg and also wanted to mine a few diamonds. But that failed with only one arm. The war veteran met his younger brother but did not recognize him. In the conversation the newcomer regretted his previous badness. But the younger revealed himself and kept the brother with him.

Title and plot are reminiscent of the two-brother fairy tale , e.g. B. from Grimm's fairy tale The Two Brothers , the motifs from fairy tales with a mountain of glass and dwarfs , e.g. B. The gifts of the little people .
