La chat métamorphosée en femme

The cat transformed into a woman (French: La Chatte métamorphosée en femme ) is the 18th fable in the second book of the collection of fables by the French poet Jean de La Fontaine .

The animal fable illustrates the story of a man who was so infatuated with his cat that he begged the gods to transform her into a woman so that he could marry her. He thought she was the perfect woman. However, he soon realized that he could not change her in every way since she could not resist hunting mice.

The theme was used in art, such as opera or painting. Chagall painted a picture of it, his client Vollard believed that Chagall had the same aesthetic sense as La Fontaine - "at the same time naive and subtle, realistic and fantastic".
