Dieter Freytag (born April 21, 1955 in Cologne , Germany ) is a German politician and full-time mayor of the city of Brühl .

Life

Freytag grew up as the youngest of three children in Brühl and has lived in his hometown ever since. He has been a member of the SPD since 1972.

Freytag graduated from high school in 1973 at what is now the Max-Ernst-Gymnasium. At the University of Cologne, he completed a degree in economics and social sciences, which he successfully completed with a degree in economics. He ran for the first time in 1979 in Brühl-Vochem for the Brühl City Council and was elected as the youngest council member at the time.

He was elected treasurer and alderman by the city council of Brühl with effect from February 1, 1991 and was re-elected twice in the following years.

On February 9, 2014, he was elected Mayor of Brühl with 60.8% in the runoff election.
