The initials »SG« for Saxe-Gotha , »H« for Hesse and »S« for Saxony are carved on the three sides . history

It is believed that Victor von Scheffel mentioned this stone in his Rennsteig poem. Stone 16 was considered missing for a long time and was only erected after it was found on May 18, 1994. It is 900 meters away from the roundabout near Oberhof .

The name Dietzel-Geba-Stein goes back to a traditional court case from the 15th century:

A memorial stone of this type and on a path that was rarely used before must have had something significant to say. Probably a truly memorable event took place at that point: the execution of Dietzel von Geba, who murdered wine carters on the Leube in or around 1498, took hold in Mehlis and then, by agreement of the three gentlemen up there at that time, at the Leube and Rennsteig to great pomp with the Schwerte was beheaded .
