Definitory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Definitory (from Latin definire “to determine, to limit”) is an advisory and decision-making body in some religious communities that supports the general or provincial in all important matters of the order and has to organize visits to the monasteries with him or instead of him . The members of the definitory are elected by the chapters of the order and called the definitory .

In some Protestant regional churches, the definitory corresponded to today's consistory , an advisory body to the superintendents .

In some dioceses of the Catholic Church , the deputy of the dean is also called the definitor .
