The DigiPen Institute of Technology is a private commercial ( for-profit ) college in Redmond , Washington (USA) that trains computer game developers. DigiPen is on the same campus as Nintendo of America .

history

The forerunner of today's university was founded in Vancouver ( Canada ) in the early 1990s to train developers for 3D computer animation . To this end, individual courses were held for DigiPen Corporation . In cooperation with Nintendo, a two-year game programmer course was developed in 1994, which ended with a diploma. In 1998 they moved the campus to Redmond and received from the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board approval, Associate and Bachelor offer diplomas. The first master’s degree was introduced in 2004.

An offshoot was established in Singapore in 2008 and in Bilbao in 2010 .

Education

DigiPen offers courses from the main areas of computer science with specializations for game development in important areas such as computer graphics or computer simulation :

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Game Design
  • Bachelor of Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation
  • Master of Science in Computer Science

Tuition fees were US $ 29,000 for the 2019/2010 school year. For room and board on campus, US $ 11,375 is added. The 6-year graduation rate is comparatively low at 43%, i.e. H. a disproportionate number of students do not complete their training as planned; more than half of the students drop out to change to another school. DigiPen graduates earn an average of US $ 85,700 for 10 years after graduation (national mean: US $ 34,300).
