Digital audio radio satellite

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Digital Audio Radio Service (DARS) can be roughly translated into German as "digital radio program". According to the definition of the US American authority FCC , DARS means the transmission of digital radio in the 2320 to 2345 MHz range of the S-band .

DARS comprises more than 100 channels. The term is often also used for broadcasting via satellite. Strictly speaking, satellite radio should be called " SDARS ", ie satellites DARS . Ground-based repeaters improve reception in places where buildings or mountains block the satellite signal.

With the dense network of terrestrial broadcasting systems, satellite broadcasting is less important for Germany than it is in North America, with its sparsely populated areas over long distances.
