Frank Dostal

Frank Dostal (born December 16, 1945 in Flensburg ; † April 18, 2017 ) was a German songwriter and music producer . He became known as a singer for the Rattles and Wonderland in the late 1960s / early 1970s . He was deputy chairman of the GEMA supervisory board .

Live and act

Frank Dostal grew up in Hamburg . He left school before graduation to become a rock singer. With the band Faces he won a young talent competition in February 1966 and performed in the Star Club , among others . He switched to the Rattles in 1966 and founded the band Wonderland with Achim Reichel in 1968 . In 1969 he ran the Star Club with Reichel . He sang at Wonderland, but also played bongos , bass and organ . He also wrote the lyrics for the band's songs for Reichel's compositions. In 1971, after the others had left the band, Reichel and Dostal recorded another album with studio musicians under the name Wonderland Band . Subsequently, Dostal supported Achim Reichel in his “AR & Machines” project. The two also produced two children's records together (The big children's party). Dostal still worked on the Reichel albums Dat Shanty Album and Klabautermann . Dissonances ended the collaboration.

Dostal set up as a freelance copywriter . In the second half of the 1970s, many of the songs he wrote were extremely successful in the charts . He worked for Vader Abraham (The Smurfs Song), Nico Haak (There's nothing under the Schottenrock), Dieter Hallervorden and Helga Feddersen ( You, the tub is full ), Nana Mouskouri , Mike Krüger , Roberto Blanco and the Goombay Dance Band .

Together with the composer Rolf Soja , Dostal was also responsible for the success of Baccara . He wrote u. a. Yes Sir, I Can Boogie ; Sorry, I'm a Lady; Parlez-vous français .

Frank Dostal was married to Mary McGlory, the former bassist of the Liverpool girl band The Liverbirds , and had two children.
