Rolf Soy

Rolf Soja (born April 23, 1947 in Soest ; † October 9, 2018 in Muskoka Lakes ) was a German composer, arranger and producer. Soja had his greatest successes with the Spanish duo Baccara . He wrote the hit Yes Sir, I Can Boogie . Together with Frank Dostal , he was responsible for all Baccara chart successes.

In addition to Baccara, Nana Mouskouri , Mireille Mathieu , Hildegard Knef , Gitte , Waterloo & Robinson , Ireen Sheer , Claude François , Mayte Mateos (lead singer of Baccara) have published compositions by Rolf Soja on record or CD. Soja also worked with Heino , Jonny Hill , Tony Holiday and Klaus Hoffmann .

Rolf Soja also wrote film scores and took part with his songs twice in the Eurovision Song Contest (1978 and 1986) and in 1977 at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo.

In 2008, after a 25-year break, Rolf Soja and Frank Dostal worked again with lead singer Mayte Mateos and her new partner Paloma Blanco (ex-member of La Década Prodigiosa). The result was the baccarat album Satin… In Black & White , released at the end of June 2008 .

There are numerous cover versions of Soja's songs . Yes Sir, I Can Boogie has been covered about 50 times, including James Last , Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Brotherhood of Man .

Soy lived in Canada from 1982, where he died in October 2018 at the age of 71. He left behind his wife, four sons and two grandchildren.
