Tony Holiday (born February 24, 1951 in Hamburg as Rolf Peter Knigge ; † February 14, 1990 in Lausanne ) was a German pop singer and lyricist.

Life

Knigge initially worked as a textile merchant and fashion designer. In 1974 he got a record deal with Hans Bertram , which gave him his stage name. The first singles were not very successful. The breakthrough came in 1977 with the German recording of the Raffaella Carrà title A far l'amore comincia tu, which was featured in the charts for weeks under the title Tanze Samba mit mir, produced by Jürgen Kramer . He also appeared several times on the ZDF hit parade . The following titles were only moderately successful. In 1979 he took part in the German preliminary decision for the Grand Prix Eurovision with the title Too much Tequila, too much beautiful girls and took ninth place. In 1980 he had a second success with Never Be Alone Again , the German recording of Sun of Jamaica . Holiday continued to appear on numerous television music shows and released a few singles throughout the 1980s.

Holiday was secretly living out his homosexuality . He died in 1990 of complications from AIDS .
