Life

Kasej grew up with his family in Stankawa, Belarus . When the German occupation forces invaded Belarus, partisan groups also formed in Stankawa. Kasej's mother was arrested by German soldiers for contact with partisans and hanged in the nearby capital Minsk. As a result, Kasej and his sister joined a group of partisans in the Stankaw forest in order to seek revenge on the occupiers, according to official information. He was used as a reconnaissance plane and was able to provide valuable information by penetrating enemy troops, which contributed to the successful expulsion of the German troops in Dzerzhinsk .

Kasej took part in various fights and was also involved in the mining of the railway lines used by the German occupiers, but fell in a battle near Choromizkie ; According to the official version, he is said to have let enemy soldiers approach him before he detonated his last remaining grenade and dragged them with him to their death.

He was posthumously named Hero of the Soviet Union in 1965 and was the second youngest person overall to ever receive that title. His sister, Ariadna Iwanawna Kasej (1928–2008), was also honored. Like other fallen Soviet child soldiers from World War II, Kasej was used by the Soviet Union for propaganda purposes in education.
