Dimitrios Kiousopoulos

Dimitrios Kiousopoulos ( Greek : Δημήτριος Κιουσόπουλος) (* 1892 in Andritsaina ( Elis ); † January 20, 1977 in Athens ) was a Greek politician and former prime minister.

Studies and career as a lawyer

Kiousopoulos graduated from Athens University with a law degree . In 1917 he began his professional career as an assessor and finally rose to the position of public prosecutor at the Supreme Court ( Areopagus ) in 1939 . During the Nuremberg Trials of the Third Reich's war crimes , he was Deputy Prosecutor for Greece in 1945. From 1950 to 1961 he finally served as a Public Prosecutor at the Supreme Court.

Political career

After the election of September 9, 1951, he was interior minister in the third cabinet of Sophoklis Venizelos for a short time until November 1, 1951 .

As the successor to Nikolaos Plastiras , he became Prime Minister of a transitional government on October 11, 1952. As such, he was essentially responsible for preparing the elections for the National Assembly (Voulí ton Ellínon) on November 16, which brought Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos to power. On November 19, 1952, he handed over the office of Prime Minister to him.
