Dingač is a Croatian red wine . It is made in the town of the same name, in Potomje and in a few other communities on the south coast of the Pelješac peninsula, from very late harvested, partly raisined grapes from the autochthonous South Dalmatian Mali Plavac grape.

The Dingač is a very dark, almost violet-black red wine with an intense scent of berries and cherries with significant alcohol levels of 14 percent by volume and more. A Dingač is ready to drink at around 5 years of age and can be stored for at least another 10 years. It is always a heavy, tannic wine, too young but often a bit rough and unbalanced. The Dingač was the first, then still Yugoslav quality wine , which in 1961 received the protected designation of origin and the predicate Kvalitetno Vino ( Outstanding Wine ).

Vineyards in Dingač

Even today, the Dingač is one of the best-known and best red wines in Croatia of top quality (see Viticulture in Croatia ). Products from the cooperative winery in Potomje, where the similar, but usually somewhat more elegant Postup is pressed, are the main products in the supraregional trade . Both are always appealing red wines, notable in good vintages, but are not among the best products from the Mali Plavac. In recent years, some local winemakers have adapted their production methods to the latest standards. The investments and holdings of French companies as well as the return of some Croatian winemakers who have become successful overseas are also having a positive effect on the quality development of Dingač.
