Horst Dippel

Horst Dippel (born April 30, 1942 in Düren ) is a German historian and university professor.

Life

Dippel studied Middle and Modern History, Political Science and Philosophy; the focus was on Anglo-American history. In 1970 he received his doctorate from Erich Angermann in Cologne . In 1980 he completed his habilitation in Hamburg. In 1980 he took on a substitute professorship at the Free University of Berlin ; In 1981 he moved to the University of Hamburg , where he initially worked as a private lecturer and until 1992 as a professor. From 1981 to 1986 he received a Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation . In addition, he held a teaching position at the University of Göttingen from 1983 to 1992 and a teaching position at the University of Leipzig from 1990 to 1992 . From 1992 he taught at the University of Kassel as a professor for British and American Studies. There he was Dean of the Department of English and Romance Studies from 1997/1998 and from 2000 to 2002. From 2003 to 2009 he held the Chair of North American and British History in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The tenth edition of his History of the USA was published in 2015.

In addition to historical topics, he has published books on wine , including Das Weinlexikon with Fabian Lange and Cornelius Lange .
