The Postup is a Croatian quality wine . Already in 1967 it was awarded the quality label ( Vrhunsko vino = top wine) and the protected designation of origin and, with Dingač and wines from Hvar, is one of the most remarkable red wines in Croatia and one of the best wines made from Mali Plavac .

Vineyards in Postup

It got its name after the hamlet Postup, which is located a little east of Orebić .

Its region of origin lies on the southern Dalmatian peninsula Pelješac and borders immediately to the west of that of Dingač. It is also made from a single variety of late harvested, partly already dried grapes of the Mali Plavac red wine grape, which is widespread in southern Dalmatia.

A postup is a massive wine rich in extracts and tannins and a deep dark, almost purple color. The tannins of young wines are, like those of other wines from the Mali Plavac, quite aggressive, but round off considerably if they are adequately and properly stored. A successful post-up is usually a little more elegant, less rough and rustic than a Dingač. The wines are very alcoholic with 14 to over 15 percent alcohol by volume . They have the typical bouquet of black cherries and wild berries. In the supraregional trade, mainly products from the Potomje cooperative winery , which also sells a sizeable Dingač, are offered, but recently remarkable products from smaller companies in the region have also entered the specialist trade. Post-ups have an excellent shelf life. They are ready to drink after at least five years.
