The dinitroxylenes form a group of substances that is derived from both xylenes and dinitrobenzenes . The structure consists of a benzene ring with two attached methyl groups (-CH 3 ) and two nitro groups (-NO 2 ) as substituents . Their different arrangement results in several constitutional isomers with the empirical formula C 8 H 8 N 2 O 4 and the molar mass 196.16 g · mol −1 .
