Dionysius Church (Hamelwörden)
The Protestant Church of St. Dionysius in Hamelwarden, today part of the municipality of Wischhafen , is the oldest church founded in the state of Kehdingen .
Parts of the original field stone have been preserved in the south wall . In the 15th century the brick church in Gothic style was raised and extended to the east and received a polygonal 5/10 apse . The new choir was vaulted.
In 1749 it was extended to the west, again in brick, and received a roof turret . The windows of the older components were also redesigned and given arches .
At the beginning of the 1990s the brick masonry was grouted . Today it is freely visible again.
In the church there is a panel from 1490 depicting the carrying of the cross . The baroque interior includes the pulpit, an altar reredos and galleries , known in this area as ' Priechen '.
