Wischhafen ( Low German Wischhoben ) is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the combined municipality of Nordkehdingen in the Stade district with around 3000 inhabitants. The place is in Kehdingen on the Elbe .

Geographical location

The municipality is bounded in the north by the Elbe. In the east, the Wischhafener Süderelbe delimits the municipality of Krautsand and the municipality of Drochtersen . In the south-west lies east , while in the north-west Oederquart and Freiburg / Elbe adjoin.

Community structure

Wischhafen consists of the districts Hamelwörden, Wischhafen, Neuland, Wolfsbruchermoor, Neulandermoor, Hamelwördenermoor and, to a small extent, Dösemoor. Other places to live are Altendorf, Dösehof, Hamelwördener Defensionsdeich, Holenweg, Holenwisch, Hollerdeich, Köckweg, Schinkel (partially) and Wolfsbruch.

history

According to archaeological studies, the Kehdinger Marsch were started in the 4th century BC. Settled. At that time, Kehdingen was a single island landscape, which was separated by priele .

The first written mentions of Kehdingen in documents come from the Roman historians Tacitus and Pliny, a Roman officer.

The extensive autonomy of Kehdingen did not end until the beginning of the 16th century when Archbishop Christoph of Bremen succeeded in subjecting the country to a well-organized financial administration.

The municipalities of Balje , Krummendeich , Oederquart , Wischhafen and the district of Freiburg an der Elbe decided on December 28, 1970 to form a single municipality instead of a single municipality. Thus, the 5 member congregations within the joint congregation that came into being on January 1, 1971, have retained their independence.

Wischhafen was included in the Lower Saxony village renewal program in 2008. The aim is to implement useful projects.

The coat of arms shows a green mountain on a silver background, which is traversed by a silver wave bar. Three wolf fishing rods are shown above.

The green mountain points to the oldest settlement in the community, the Kirchen wurt and the district of Altendorf. The wave bar is both a reference to the coat of arms of the von Drewes family and a symbol of the importance of shipping for the place on the Elbe. The wolf fishing indicates that the last wolves in Kehdingen were caught in the Wolfsbruch district.

The coat of arms was approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior on August 5, 1948, making it official.

Church of St. Dionysius in Hamelwörden

A large part of the population is denominationally connected to the Evangelical Lutheran religion. The main church St. Dionysius used is located in the center of the Hamelwörden district.

Museums

Museum ship Iris-Jörg

The Kehdinger Küstenschiffahrts-Museum has existed in Wischhafen since 1995 and has , among other things, its own museum ship , the former coaster “ Iris-Jörg ”.

Sports

Wischhafen has, among other things, a gymnastics club, tennis club, table tennis club, shooting club and soccer club. In the latter respect, it cooperates with Dornbusch (part of the Drochtersen municipality ) and the FC Wischhafen / Dornbusch club was founded in 2000. The first of the three teams is currently playing in the Stade district league.

In the youth sector, on the other hand, the SG Freiburg / Oederquart and TSV Großenwörden have been cooperating since the 2010/2011 season and they play together in the JSG Nord. Other sports are also offered, such as volleyball and athletics.

Elbe ferry

There is a ferry connection across the Elbe between Wischhafen and Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein . The pier is located northeast of the flood protection barrier on the Süderelbe. From the ferry landing from leading B 495 west to the place East (Oste) and closes at Hemmoor to the B 73 at. Coming from the south of Drochtersen, the L 111 is somewhat identical to the B 495, but then continues to Freiburg.

This Wischhafen barrage is included in the Elbe cycle path , but is only available to cycle traffic on around 40 days a year for two hours at a time.

The narrow-gauge Kehdinger Kreisbahn , which connected Wischhafen with Stade and Itzwörden (Oste), was shut down in 1936 and completely dismantled. The bus line 2025 Stade - Drochtersen - Wischhafen - Freiburg - Itzwörden, which is operated by KVG Stade and is connected to the Hamburg transport association , now runs in its place .

A tunnel connection between Ritsch and Schleswig-Holstein is currently planned as part of the A 20 .

Established businesses

Wischhafen is the headquarters of Karl Meyer AG , a company that is active in the fields of waste disposal and recycling. The second largest employer is the branch of Gerhard Rode Rohrleitungsbau GmbH & Co KG. In addition to these two, “Bernhardt Bauunternehmen Kehdingen” and the Elbe ferry Glückstadt – Wischhafen are major employers. In addition, individual smaller businesses are settled in Wischhafen.

7.7 hectares are used as commercial space in the municipality of Wischhafen.

The property tax is currently 370 and has been constant for several years. The trade tax has also remained unchanged at 360 points for several years.

The community's public coffers have been showing some deficits for several years. Debts will be repaid continuously over the next few years. At the end of 2007 the debt was € 298,300, which currently corresponds to a per capita debt of € 97. In the coming years, at least € 20,600 of debt should always be repaid. At the end of 2011, the debt should be € 214,000, which in turn would correspond to a debt of € 70 given the current population.
