About this picture
Bird's eye view of the Dollern community

Dollern is a municipality in the Stade district in Lower Saxony and is part of the Horneburg municipality , where the administrative tasks of the Dollern municipality are also performed.

Geographical location

Dollern is located on the western Geest ridge of the glacial valley of the Elbe , about 28 kilometers from the city limits of Hamburg , between Stade (12 kilometers) and Buxtehude (14 kilometers).

history

Traces of human settlement have been found in the local area for around 55,000 years. It can be assumed, however, that this was not a settled settlement. Traces of these ice age and post- ice age hunters were found mainly in the area of today's roads Immengrund and Pleisshorn . It is unclear since when there has been complete settlement. A clue to this results from the interpretation of the place name by the name researcher Jürgen Udolph . He assumes that the name originated around the birth of Christ. The oldest written tradition is a forged document in the middle of the 12th century , dated November 11, 1105. This document deals with the material equipment of the newly founded Katlenburg monastery .

The list of taxpayers from 1524 mentions the names of residents for the first time.

On April 8, 1793, a fire destroyed the village except for two or three buildings. On April 22, 1793, the Hanoverian advertisements reported that Dollern near Bremen had burned down within an hour on April 8 of that year, at 9 a.m., that two people had died and that many had been undergoing medical treatment. On April 29, the newspaper said that a total of 39 houses had burned down there. Bargstedt, in the same office, was also affected by a conflagration. On April 10, 32 buildings burned down there and a woman had to be mourned.

Reconstruction began that same year. The gate beam inscriptions on some of the houses in the style of the Low German hall house are reminiscent of this catastrophe and are still in the old village center today.

In October 2004 an illustrated village chronicle on the history of the place was published, and in 2005 Dollern celebrated the 900th anniversary of the place, whereby the mention in the, albeit falsified, document of 1105 was based.

Basic center Dollern

For several years now, the community of Dollern has been striving to be included in the regional spatial planning program (RROP) as the basic center of the district of Stade . At the moment the community is not classified as a basic center (like e.g. Horneburg ). As a municipality, the village with its over 2,000 inhabitants is only allowed to fulfill a “local supply function within walking distance”. This is not an advantage for the implementation of business expansions. Furthermore, Mayor Ehlers does not consider this classification to be sensible. In the opinion of the administration of the joint municipality of Horneburg , the last application for the RROP argued that the municipality of Dollern should be recognized as a basic center, as it has a variety of central facilities for basic needs, which serve to provide basic services to residents from the surrounding area and thus meet the required criteria.

Infrastructure and institutions

There are two kindergartens and a two-class primary school in the village. Basic facilities such as a grocery store, ATMs, doctor, dentist, petrol station and pharmacy are also available and there is a connection to the railway line and the A26 motorway. In addition, a larger furniture, equipment and clothing store is of economic importance for the community.

societies

There are several non-profit associations in Dollern. The largest club is the local sports club called Dollerner Sport-Club with almost 500 members in the handball, gymnastics and football departments. In addition to the citizens' association, there is also a tennis club and a shooting club in the Dollern community. Old, no longer existing clubs were the TuS Dollern , which was founded in 1946 on an initiative and provided the offers in football, gymnastics and boxing, the Turngemeinschaft Dollern , founded in 1957, and the Dollern citizens and support association dbf , which presented After its founding in 1972, pursued the short-term goal of building a village community facility on Tannenweg. After the Dollerner Bürger- und Förderverein was founded in 1982 a. a. today's sports clubs.

Village community

The sports and leisure areas on Tannenweg in the Dollern community

Since 2017, those responsible in the Dollern community have been implementing a new village community center or community center in Dollern. In a location decision in 2018, the municipal council agreed on the location in the area of the sports and leisure areas in Tannenweg. However, the further planning is pending despite existing needs from residents, associations and other institutions from Dollern. Six-figure EU funds could be used to build this project.

Sports

Multipurpose hall Dollern

In terms of infrastructure, tennis courts, a sports field, a shooting range and a multi-purpose hall are available in the municipality of Dollern. The multi-purpose hall in Dollern holds almost 150 spectators. The multi-purpose hall with the adjoining facilities was built in 1978 and converted six years later for use for school purposes. After an area remained on the north side of the hall, today's tennis facility on Tannenweg was built there from 1979. In 1994 the community began building the sports field on the Osterfeld, which was inaugurated a year later.

The Niederelbebahn from Cuxhaven to Hamburg runs through the town, with Dollern being a stopping point. In 1881 the single-track railway line went into operation and the community had an important freight loading station for a long time. The line was electrified in the 1960s and since December 2007 Dollern has been the stop of the Hamburg S-Bahn with the S-Bahn line 3 from Stade to Pinneberg . New kindergarten in the community.

There are two DRK kindergartens in Dollern . The one daycare center with a total of six and a half groups is based on the Lower Saxony education and orientation plan. The day care center has developed its own concept in which aspects of the educational work are recorded. After new houses were built in the new building areas of Nedderbrook, Osterberg and Lerchenweg from 1960, a play area building was built in the following years. Today's kindergarten emerged from this building in 1993. In 2017, the kindergarten on the Reller, including the cafeteria and multifunctional room, was expanded and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018 with an open house. Furthermore, a second kindergarten was completed in the new building area in 2018. The new Kindergarten Kleine Kraniche covers an area of around 425 square meters (plus a spacious outdoor area) and is designed for two crèche groups for a total of 30 children.

schools

Elementary school in the Dollern community

The two-class squirrel elementary school Dollern is located in the community . In 1949 a plan was drawn up for the construction of the primary school in Dollern im Kreienborn with two classrooms, which was inaugurated in December 1949 and 6 years later was expanded for the first time to include a classroom with a group room. Previously, classes were held in the current building of the church on Dorfstrasse. At the beginning of the eighties, the two small primary schools in the neighboring town of Agathenburg and Dollern were merged to form the Dollern / Agathenburg primary school . The schooling took place only in Dollern. A few years later, a competition was held to find a suitable name for the school. The squirrel elementary school proposal won with a large majority . Voluntary all-day school operations have been taking place since the 2017/2018 school year. In 2018, the primary school was expanded to include additional rooms as part of construction work.

Volunteer firefighter

On March 10, 1914, the volunteer fire department in Dollern was founded. At the time, 30 men volunteered to take on the duties of a fire brigade. In 2014 the volunteer fire brigade celebrated its 100th anniversary in Dollen. The Dollerner youth fire brigade was founded in 1993. Today's special requirements are placed on the Dollern fire brigade in the special area Mohr, the federal highway 73 , the federal highway 26 and the railway line Hamburg - Cuxhaven . The Dollern local fire brigade has the status of a base fire brigade and has taken on other tasks in addition to the basic tasks of a fire brigade (fire fighting and assistance). In this way, qualified first aid can be provided in the event of a medical emergency until the emergency services arrive. In the district fire brigade standby , the fire brigade is part of the foam generation train. In addition to the Horneburg fire brigade, fire brigade members were also trained in earthing the overhead lines.

The fire station in Dollern was inaugurated on in 1963 as part of its 50th anniversary. The fire station and the extension from 2006 include a vehicle parking space, a workshop, a changing room, the clothing store for all fire brigades in the municipality of Horneburg , an office for the fire chief, separate sanitary facilities for men and women as well as a group room and sanitary facilities for the youth fire brigade.

The Dollern fire brigade has a powerful LF 8/6 fire fighting vehicle , a TLF 3000 tank tender with a hydraulic rescue kit, an ELW 1 command vehicle and an MTF team transport vehicle for use by the Dollern fire brigade.

church

The former school building and has been a church in the community since 1961

Until 1903 Dollern belonged to the church play of Bargstedt. At that time, Bargstedt could be reached via the Geestrücken without any problems, in contrast to Bliedersdorf and Harseseld, which were closed due to the floodplain. Between 1780 and 1820, the civil status entries for Dollern in the Bargstedter church book decreased and from then on the nearby Horneburg church was increasingly visited. In 1955 the parish bought the old school building in Dorfstraße to take the citizens off to go to church in Horneburg. After the new school building on Kreienborn had been built and the move there, the renovation of the building began. It was u. a. a copper-covered roof turret with a bell with the inscription “Brothers be sober and watch” (1. Peter, 5, 8) added to the building. In October 1961, after the renovation work, the chapel was handed over in the presence of the state superintendent. In August 1998, the Dollern parish gained formal independence from the mother church in Horneburg and became a chapel parish with its own chapel board.

Energy and water

In operation since 1960 - the Immengrund waterworks

In the west of Dollern, the transmission system operator TenneT TSO operates one of the largest substations in Lower Saxony. A line connects this substation via Elbe crossing 2 with the Wilster switchgear in Nortorf .

Until 1960 there was a decentralized water supply in Dollern from in-house wells with hand pumps or from small waterworks on the farms or z. B. for the settlement on Postring. That changed with the construction of the waterworks in 1958. The waterworks of TWV Stader Land, which was then put into operation in 1960 in Immengrund, has since had a delivery and treatment capacity of 3.65 million m³ / year . An 18-part row of fountains, which is located along the Geest slope between Dollern and Agathenburg, provides this service. In addition, there are five more wells in the Agathenburger Moor.

Retail and business

Dollern location

Dollern is part of the Hamburg metropolitan region .

Mohr special area

The special area Mohr plays an important role for the local supply and economy in the joint municipality Horneburg and the district of Stade.

In addition to the industrial areas on Veerenkamp, the train station, Altländer Straße / Hauptstraße, Bundesstraße / Rüstjer Weg, the special area Mohr in the municipality stands out with its economic and supra-regional importance. This special area shows several traders in its relatively small area. However, the grocery store Edeka Drewes and the fashion house Mohr play the most important role for the economy and supply in the Dollern municipality, the Horneburg municipality and the Stade district . The catchment area of these local shops extend far beyond the municipal boundary.

Although the municipality of Dollern is not assigned any actual local supply function by the Regional Spatial Planning Program (RROP), the Mohr fashion house in particular impresses with its supraregional local supply in the Stade district. The Mohr fashion house, which takes up most of the space in the special area, was founded in 1948 by Bodo Mohr and his wife Gesine Mohr. As an initial retail and travel business, the company developed into the largest employer in Dollern via the mail order business in the 1950s with up to 350 employees. At the beginning of the 1970s, the company switched from mail order to retail and the business building, located on the "Am Buschteich" street in Dollern, was gradually expanded through extensive construction work. In 1989 Volker Mohr and a little later his wife Beke joined the Dollern family company. The largest and most representative extension in the company's history was carried out in 1995, when the company was expanded by a further 4,500 m². In 2019 the fashion house expanded to 19,000 m² of retail space and is still the largest employer in the Dollern community today.

Veerenkamp business park

In the municipality of Horneburg there are commercial properties in different locations, sizes and price categories. In addition to areas in Dollern that are marketed directly through the municipality (building administration), other commercial properties are also offered. In 2014, the municipality had gradually bought up agricultural land in order to extend the existing industrial park. After the development, a total of eight building plots on around 25,600 square meters are available. Two medium-sized companies are located in the Veerenkamp industrial park.

Attractions

Bush ponds

With their shape and the surrounding nature, the bush ponds shape the townscape

The forces of nature of the Ice Age, the wind, the water and also the entourage of the Dollerner Bach formed a notch in the geest cliff over several decades. Through the damming, the residents created a chain of three ponds of different sizes. This area is still of great importance today, as it is one of the most heavily profiled cuttings with extensive water surfaces. The so-called bush ponds are located in a small, densely wooded valley in the middle of the municipality. A network of paths enables walkers to reach the bush ponds. The forests are described as one of the oldest and partly even continuously wooded areas on the Geestrand between Stade and Horneburg. Above the bush ponds, in the upper part of the partial chain, protected biotopes with reeds, lawns and wet willow bushes, which have emerged from a meadow within 20 years, have developed into a nature reserve.

Bodo-Mohr hiking trail

The Bodo-Mohr hiking trail leads through the municipality of Dollern. The founder of the Mohr department store went for walks here. The route of the path was named after the entrepreneur, who turned 101 years old. The Bodo-Mohr hiking trail leads u. a. along the bush ponds and the Osterfeld. The route of the annual bush pond run in Dollern also runs along parts of the hiking trail.

Rural house types

The old hall house Auf dem Brink 4 from 1793 is still standing today and with its gate bar inscription reminds of the old architectural style of that time with its decorations

In today's village center of Dollern - in the area of Hauptstrasse, Altländer Strasse , Dorfstrasse and A uf dem Brink - many rural house types with an architectural style from the 17th to 20th centuries can still be found as sights. The large farmhouses are all of the Lower Saxon hall house type . These usually consist of two rows of stands as an inner skeleton, which are load-bearing. The Dollerner houses at Auf dem Brink 4 , Dorfstrasse 11 , Hauptstrasse 15 , for example, were rebuilt in 1793 after a fire in the town. The building at Dorfstrasse 2 was built in 1854 and is one of the last large hall houses to be built in Dollern. Between 1856 and 1888, alterations and changes were made to the building fabric - while the basic shape of the houses remained the same. Today the exterior of the houses is largely untouched. In the hall houses, u. a. the gate beam inscriptions as decorations above the large doors to the time. The building Auf dem Brink 4 bsp. the inscription:

"GOTT BEWEHR DJESES HVS FVR WAR VND BRAND SGNET WITH MJLDER HAND JOHANN HJNRICH BVRVEND CATARINA BVRVENDS 1973 the 27th JVNIVS".
