Mill in Grefenmoor

Düdenbüttel is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the combined municipality of Oldendorf-Himmelpforten in the Stade district . In addition to the main town of Düdenbüttel, the town also includes the smaller settlements Grefenmoor and Weißenmoor.

history

The first mention of the place occurs in a document of the Archbishop of Bremen Adalbert from July 20, 1059 as Dudanebutli . In this, the nun Riquur transferred ownership of the Bremen Church in Düdenbüttel.

In 1132, the Counts of Stade furnished the newly founded St. Georg Monastery with land, including a hoof from Düdenbüttel. Düdenbüttel is mentioned again in 1204 as a Nenenbutle in a document from Count Palatine Heinrich and in 1334 in a document from Archbishop Burchard of Bremen . The Himmelpforten monastery expanded its property in Düdenbüttel in 1418.

Around 1500 the Vörder Register names seven farms in Düdenbüttel, the number of which will double over the next 100 years due to new smallholder positions and farm divisions.

In 1633 two women, presumably from Düdenbüttel, were suspected of witchcraft before the archbishop's regional court in Oldendorf . During the siege of Stade by troops from Lüneburg and Münster in 1675, Düdenbüttel was also badly damaged. The single-digit Kate Grefenmoor, located about two kilometers from the main town on today's federal highway 73 , was founded in 1715.

A major fire devastated most of Düdenbüttel in 1764. After the fire, the first school building in Düdenbüttel was financed from donations. Further farms were established. The agricultural reform reached Düdenbüttel in 1772 with the expulsion of potato fighters in the Düdenbüttler Feldmark. In 1821 the common division of the Hanoverian agrarian reform began. In 1830 the Weissenmoor moor colony was founded and in 1834 the road leading through Düdenbüttel was expanded. In 1895 Düdenbüttel changed from the parish of Oldendorf to the parish of Himmelpforten .

For the first time, a gallery Dutch windmill was built in the Grefenmoor district in 1853. This was rebuilt twice in 1874 and 1896 after fires. Today's windmill Amanda , which was restored from 1994 to 1995, is regarded as the landmark of Düdenbüttels.

During and after the First World War , Düdenbüttel and Weißenmoor took in East Prussian refugees. In 1929 Weißenmoor is incorporated into the community of Düdenbüttel.

During World War II , prisoners of war took over the work of drafted men, many of whom died in the war. In the last days of the war, Düdenbüttel came under fire. Refugees from the eastern regions settled in Düdenbüttel after the end of the war.

Düdenbüttel has belonged to the municipality of Himmelpforten since 1972.

Surname

The oldest documents are Dudanebutli (1059), Dudenebotle, occasionally also Dodenebuttle and then Dudenbutle, Dudenbüttel and much later Düdenbüttel.

The name component - büttel goes back to the word butli , which means something like living space . The first part of the name developed from the old given name Dudo or Duda. The place is named after the living space or courtyard of a man named Dudo or Duda. The personal name occurs in a number of place names (Dudendorf, Dudenbostel, Dudensen , Düderode , Dudinchof).

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality shows a silver rider with a gold bridle, saddle and helmet in blue over a silver shield base covered with three licking flames.

This goes back to a legend according to which in a village fire on March 29, 1754, after all but five houses had been affected by fire, a horse rider came up from Stade on a white horse. He stopped in Düdenbüttel and shouted in a mighty voice “To this point and no further!” Then he galloped on, without looking back, towards Himmelpforten .
