About this picture

Deinste ( Low German Deinst ) is a municipality in the Stade district in Lower Saxony .

Community structure

The municipality of Deinste consists of two districts. The two villages Deinste and Helmste are almost the same size with just over 1200 inhabitants each.

history

Surname

Old names of Deinste are around 900 Tunstede, 1315 Deinstede, 1383 Deynstede, 1433 Deyenste and 1500 Deynstede. The basic word of the place name comes from the Low German "-stede", whose meaning can be interpreted as "place, place, settlement point". In the first part a personal name is to be assumed. Ultimately, a basic form “Dein-s-sted-” can be assumed, which consists of a male personal name “Dego, Dago” and “-sted (e)”. The place name probably means "settlement of Dego or Dago"; "Dag" means "day, happy day".

Incorporations

Since July 1, 1972, the former municipality of Helmste has belonged to the municipality of Deinste.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Deinste is located on the Bremervörde – Stade railway line , which opened in 1898 and runs past the town to the west. In 1992 it was taken over by the Elbe-Weser railways and transport company, and passenger transport was discontinued in 1993. Since freight traffic has also been inactive since 2003, the section only serves as an operating route and is used by tourist trains ( Moorexpress ) in summer .

The single-storey station building with attached goods shed is a listed building and was renovated from 2007 to 2011 as part of the village renewal program. A development association runs a café and organizes cultural events.
