Großenwörden ( Low German Grootwöörn ) is a village and a municipality in the Stade district in Lower Saxony . The community belongs to the combined community of Oldendorf-Himmelpforten , which has its administrative seat in the community of Himmelpforten . The place was first mentioned in 1255 as were mentioned in a deed of donation from the knight Friedrich von Haseldorf II.

geography

Grossenwörden lies in the Oste Marshes on the edge of the Kehdinger Moor . The Rönne flows into the Oste on the north-western edge of the municipality.

Administrative history

Before 1885, Großenwörden belonged to the Himmelpforten office . In 1885 the community became part of the Neuhaus district , but in 1932 it moved with Hüll and Neuland to the current district of Stade .

In the course of the territorial reform , Großenwörden became a member of the integrated community of Himmelpforten on July 1, 1972 , which merged with the integrated community of Oldendorf on January 1, 2014 to form the new integrated community of Oldendorf-Himmelpforten .

Grossenwörden is evangelical-Lutheran and belongs to the parish of Horst in Burweg / Großenwörden . For the few Catholics the church is the Holy Spirit in Stade responsible.

The municipal coat of arms, designed by the Bremen heraldist Horst Scheffler in the spring of 2001, shows the typical Lower Saxony house with red infill and silver half-timbering and a silver wave arch symbolizing the Großenwörden Ostebogen on a grassy green ground. An alder branch indicates the alder stocks that line the drainage ditches in Großenwörden.

The elementary school in Großenwörden was closed in 1975. Since then, the students from Großenwörden have attended elementary school in Himmelpforten and secondary schools in Himmelpforten ( secondary school with a high school branch ) and Stade ( Vincent-Lübeck-Gymnasium ).
