The base word of the place name contains the Low German "borg" for "castle, solid house", later the High German variant occurs. In the defining word “Kran (en)” there is possibly the Middle Low German “krone, kron, krôn, kroneke or Kroon, Kraneke”, “Kranich”.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the district on June 2, 1983.

Blazon : “Split and divided in front; in front above in silver three blue tips, in front below split from red and silver by a tin cut, behind in green a slanted silver wave bar. "

The basis of the new coat of arms is the coat of arms of the noble von Brobergen family , who already had their seat here in the 12th century, but has now died out (the municipality of Brobergen, in their territorial successor, had it since March 31, 1948), as well as that Coat of arms of the also aristocratic von Marschalck family , who are now based on the Hutloh manor in Hechthausen. In their family coat of arms, the von Brobergen family had a shield split by three red battlements made of silver. The still "blooming" coat of arms of the von Marschalck family shows three blue tips in a silver shield. The green indicates the location of the municipality of Kranenburg in the Ostemarsch. The corrugated bar marks the former headquarters of the two noble families on the left and right of the Oste, the current municipality of Kranenburg / Brobergen.
