About this picture

Estorf ( Low German Esdbod ) is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the Stade district . The community belongs to the combined community of Oldendorf-Himmelpforten , which has its administrative seat in the community of Himmelpforten .

It consists of the districts Estorf , Gräpel and Behrste .

geography

The community is located in the west of the district of Stade an der Oste . In the north it borders on the municipality of Kranenburg and the town of Brobergen in it . The municipality of Oldendorf lies in the east .

In the south and west are the places Elmerheide , Elm , Nieder Ochtenhausen , Ottendorf and Ostendorf , which belong to Bremervörde . In Ostendorf, the municipality is the only area in the district that extends to the left bank of the Oste alongside part of Brobergen.

history

With one of the largest Stackbusch ports in Europe, Graepel offered regionally based inland waterway operators a wintering place until well into the 1960s . The local boatmen's association cherishes the memory of the days when the ewer and barges still took over the supply of the region. Some inland waterway captains still live in the village today.

Incorporations

The formerly independent municipalities of Graepel and Behrste were merged with the municipality of Estorf on July 1, 1972 as part of the municipality reform in Lower Saxony.

coat of arms

Flag of the municipality of Estorf

The coat of arms was adopted by the municipal council on September 21, 1973 and approved by the Stade district on December 17, 1973.

Blazon : “Split by green and silver; in front a silver tree trunk, inclined diagonally to the right, with two stumps on each side, behind a green grape with three silver ribbons, above two crossed, outward-looking, green horse heads. "

The right field shows the coat of arms of the former Lords of Estorf, which the municipality of Estorf has already used as a coat of arms. As a talking symbol, the Grapen refers to the former municipality of Graepel that came to Estorf, which has also shown this symbol in other colors as a coat of arms. The crossed horse heads represent the former community of Behrste, which today still consists largely of old, thatched farmhouses in Lower Saxony.

Economy and Infrastructure

tourism

Gräpel is located directly on the Oste and is a frequent travel destination for cyclists and anglers . Even Father's Day trips to Graepler Gasthof Plate directly on Osteufer are very popular. At the end of Father's Day, there is a celebration with up to several thousand participants depending on the weather. At the inn there is also the hand-operated pram ferry across the Oste, which is part of the German ferry route .

traffic

The district road 114 runs through the community, which at Himmelpforten connects to the federal road 73 towards Stade and Hamburg and at Elm it connects to the federal road 74 to Bremervörde. From Gräpel, the county road 82 leads towards Brobergen. Traffic with the left side of the Oste is only possible sporadically in summer via the small Gräpler Prahmfähre or via the fixed Ostebrücke in Bremervörde.

In the long term, the construction of the Federal Motorway 22 past Estorf is planned.

education

There is a primary school in Estorf. Secondary schools are the school center Oldendorf for secondary and secondary schools as well as the Vincent-Lübeck-Gymnasium in Stade and the Gymnasium Bremervörde.
