The coat of arms of the community of Mittelkirchen shows:
In silver on a green shield base, in it a silver corrugated strip (for the Lühe), bars from shield edge to shield edge three adjoining, windowless red pointed gables (for the parishes Steinkirchen, Mittelkirchen and Neuenkirchen); above the middle a red conical stump with a flat helmet (for the steeple of the St. Bartholomäus Church in Mittelkirchen).
Culture and sights
The Church of St. Bartholomew, which can be traced back to the 14th century for the first time, is located in Mittelkirchen, with valuable colorful furnishings and an organ by Arp Schnitger from 1688.
history
The old name of Mittelkirchen is Media Lu (Lu = Lühe), around 1334 Middelsten Luh. The name is explained by the location between Lu lapidea - Steinkirchen - and Nova Lu - Neuenkirchen. Dutch settlers reclaimed and settled this land in the 13th century. It was administered by the abbots of the Harsefeld monastery. The place is mentioned for the first time in 1221, when Bishop Iso donated the tithe of Lu to the Andreasstift in Verden.
traffic
South of the community passes the federal highway 73 which Buxtehude with Stade connects. In addition, the A 26 is currently being built south of Mittelkirchen towards Hamburg. The district and the city of Stade have been connected to the S-Bahn network of the Hamburg metropolitan region since the 2007/2008 winter timetable . Trains on line S3 run several times an hour, with which a direct connection to Hamburg is created. The places of the joint community of Lühe, which are not far from the S-Bahn line and the Dollern , Horneburg and Buxtehude stations, also benefit from this . Due to the immediate proximity of the Elbe, there are ferry connections to Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein at the Lühe pier in Grünendeich and in the nearby Hamburg district of Cranz .
telecommunications
Mittelkirchen has been supplied with DSL since 2009 , but the speeds achieved initially remained at a low level. A tariff with up to 2,000 kbit / s could be booked through the regional energy and telecommunications provider EWE AG , based in Oldenburg , but the actual connection rates were often significantly lower. The reason for this was the distance to the main distributor in Steinkirchen . Since 2012, however, EWE has also expanded Mittelkirchen with a fast internet connection, using a combination of fiber optic cables and copper cables to supply the houses on the last mile . Since November 2012, the Kirchschhoff-Appelhoff development area has also had the opportunity to benefit from connection rates of up to 50,000 kbit / s. The prerequisite was that a majority of the residents would commit to EWE by mid-June 2012 as part of a preliminary contract. At the end of June 2012, EWE gave the “green light” for the VDSL expansion, which was completed in spring 2013. Another Internet provider in the Mittelkirchen area is Arche NetVision , which has a radio-based W-DSL offer. The expansion of the LTE radio network (also known as 4G) for Mittelkirchen will also play a role in the future . Vodafone in particular seems to stand out here , while the providers Telekom and o2 cannot yet provide any information on the availability of LTE.
