The joint municipality Horneburg is a joint municipality in the Stade district in Lower Saxony . Five municipalities have come together in it to carry out their administrative business. The administrative seat of the joint community is in Horneburg .

geography

The combined community of Horneburg is located between Stade and Buxtehude on the Stade Geestrand near the Altes Land .

The integrated community is made up of its member communities Agathenburg , Bliedersdorf , Dollern , Horneburg and Nottensdorf .

history

The joint municipality of Horneburg was formed as part of the Lower Saxony regional and administrative reform in the early 1970s and the first meeting of the council took place on January 25, 1971. The first joint municipality director Frank Heinrich was unanimously elected head of administration for 12 years in 1971. After his re-election in 1983, he held the post until 1995. He was followed by Iris Gronert, who held office until the first election of a full-time mayor in the integrated municipality.

Joint council

The council of the joint municipality Horneburg consists of 28 council members (number for municipalities between 11,001 and 12,000 inhabitants). The 28 council members are elected by local elections for five years each. The current term of office began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021.
The full-time mayor of the municipality is also entitled to vote in the council.

Joint mayor of the municipality

The full-time mayor of the entire municipality of Horneburg is Matthias Herwede (non-party). In the last mayoral election on May 25, 2014, he was elected unopposed candidate with 89.0% of the vote. The turnout was 47.6%. Herwede took office on November 1, 2014, replacing the previous incumbent Gerhard Froelian (SPD), who was no longer a candidate.

The entire municipality of Horneburg can be reached by car via the B 73 ( Cuxhaven - Hamburg ) or the A 26 (Stade-Horneburg). Regional trains and the S-Bahn run on a rail connection that also runs between Cuxhaven and Hamburg and stop every half hour or hour at the stations in Horneburg, Agathenburg and Dollern.
