The Samtgemeinde Nordkehdingen is a joint municipality in the Stade district in Lower Saxony . Five municipalities have come together in it to carry out their administrative business. The administrative seat of the joint municipality is in Freiburg / Elbe .
geography
Geographical location
The combined community is located on the lower reaches of the Elbe , the so-called Niederelbe, between the rivers Oste and Wischhafener Süderelbe . The landscape is the northern part of the Kehdinger Land .
Joint community structure
The combined community consists of the member communities Balje , Freiburg / Elbe , Krummendeich , Oederquart and Wischhafen .
history
Under the pressure of the regional and administrative reform in Lower Saxony , the above-mentioned member communities decided on December 28, 1970 against forming a unified community. With effect from January 1, 1971, the integrated community of Nordkehdingen was created.
In July 2015, the five mayors of the member municipalities signed an area change agreement, with which the combined municipality of Nordkehdingen should have been converted into a single municipality of "Nordkehdingen" on November 1st, 2016. In the case of a corresponding referendum in the municipality of Wischhafen, however, this was rejected, which means that the joint municipality remains.

Joint council
The council of the joint municipality of Nordkehdingen consists of 20 council women and councilors. This is the specified number for a municipality with a population between 7,001 and 8,000. The 20 council members are elected by local elections for five years each.
The full-time Mayor of the Joint Community, Edgar Goedecke (independent), is also entitled to vote in the Council of the Joint Community.

Mayor of the municipality
Erika Hatecke (CDU) has been the full-time mayor of the entire municipality of Nordkehdingen since 2020. In the mayoral election on November 10, 2019, she was elected unopposed with 95 percent of the vote. The turnout was 35.1 percent. Hatecke began her first term on May 1, 2020.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
The connection of the entire community from Stade is mainly carried out by motorized individual traffic via the so-called Obstmarschenweg . On the Kehdinger side, this is the Lower Saxony state road 111 , which branches off from the federal motorway 26 at the Stade-Ost junction. The Obstmarschenweg runs through Kehdingen along its entire length between Schwinge and Oste and is crossed by federal road 495 in the municipality of Wischhafen . This creates a connection in the direction of Bremervörde and on the other side of the Elbe to Glückstadt (see Elbe ferry Glückstadt-Wischhafen ). This is the only remaining car connection across the Elbe below Hamburg to Schleswig-Holstein.
In public transport , the entire community is connected to the Stade train station (line 2025) via a regular bus service . Both buses and trains are integrated into the Hamburg transport network. The offer is supplemented by so-called collective call taxis.
Established businesses
By far the most important company in the municipality is the disposal company Karl Meyer AG . The corporate group is based in the municipality of Wischhafen .
education
There are four primary schools as well as a special school and secondary and secondary school in Freiburg / Elbe in the integrated community. For the 2014/15 school year, the primary school and the secondary school will merge to form the associated primary and secondary school in Nordkehdingen.
