ground floor

On the ground floor, visitors are informed about the history of shipbuilding and coastal shipping in this region. It starts with little Ewern and mizzenewers who were equipped with sails for propulsion. Ship models show this development and are supplemented by workshop equipment, tools and motors, which are on display alongside many other exhibits. In addition, ship navigation and radio communication devices are shown on the ground floor, and some objects from river fishing and rescue at sea complete the picture.

First floor

First floor, view of the wheelhouse

On the upper floor, the focus is on living and working on the coastal ships. Part of a small coastal ship consisting of a full-size wheelhouse and hatch cover is the eye-catcher here. On the tour, the visitor gets real insights into life on board. A galley , a mess and a sailors' chamber show the furnishings and convey important impressions. Many everyday objects and photos form valuable additions and a number of models continue the development of the coastal ships that began on the ground floor. There is also a larger meeting room on the upper floor and next to it a room with lots of photos, which is also used for film screenings. The view from the window of the conference room is on the museum harbor with the restored coaster of the museum.

Kümo "Iris-Jörg", look into the captain's cabin

One of the special focuses of the museum is the 1956 built coaster Iris-Jörg in the community port , which was built as a sluice port . The cargo hold , superstructure, engine room , cabins and bridge can be viewed on the ship, adding to the impressions of life on board the coastal ships gained on the upper floor. This type of ship, abbreviated as Kümo, initially operated mainly on the coasts and in the lower reaches of the rivers. He drove in the small and medium voyages and supplied the ports with all the necessary general cargo. From the 1960s, these general cargo ships were gradually replaced by small container ships that were involved in the trade in the Baltic and North Sea countries. As feeder ships, they also support the larger container ships in the distribution of containers from overseas. Particularly the smaller ports in the North and Baltic Seas were called at.
