Dip (fiberglass)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DIP is the name given to an error that has occurred in the manufacture of a glass fiber in the axial center. The refractive index profile in the core of a gradient fiber ( multimode fiber ) deviates from the parabolic shape around the core axis, which is, however, an essential planned feature. This creates an impairment of the optical signal, which for z. B. Gigabit Ethernet means an additional limitation of the bandwidth and consequently a shortening of the possible fiber length.
