Dirk Moldt

Dirk Moldt (born July 23, 1963 in Berlin ) is a German historian. The focus of his work is the history of the GDR , especially its civil rights movement , to which he himself belonged. He also publishes on Eastern Europe and Berlin's regional history.

life and work

Dirk Moldt grew up in East Berlin . After attending school, he completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker from 1980 and worked in the profession until 1984. From 1983 he got involved in headstrong to oppositional groups, especially in the Open Youth Work Berlin, the Church from Below , and the Environmental Library , as well as in theater and music projects. In 1987 he was one of the co-organizers of a concert in the Zionskirche , which became famous after the attack by right-wing extremist youth. He examined the events surrounding the concert in 1999 during an internship at the federal agency for the Stasi files , and published the results in 2002. From 1984 to 1991, Moldt officially worked as a housekeeper at the People's Solidarity in East Berlin, then until 1993 as a librarian at the cultural office Center. Moldt studied history from 1997 and graduated with an MA in 2002 . Since then he has been working as a freelance author, curator and lecturer. In 2007 he received his doctorate in medieval history. Moldt lives in Berlin.
