Dirkje Postma

Dirkje Postma (* 1951 ) is a Dutch physician ( pulmonology ) and professor of pathophysiology of the respiratory tract and pulmonology at the University of Groningen and the university hospital there.

Postma is particularly concerned with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). She set the treatment standards for the two lung diseases in the Netherlands and examined the genetics of asthma.

She has held positions with the Dutch Asthma Foundation, WHO and the National Institutes of Health in the USA.

In 2000 she received the Spinoza Prize . She is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences and is an academy professor and honorary doctorate from the University of Sheffield and Lund University.
