Display power management signaling
Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) is a method specified in 2003 by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) with which the graphics card of a computer can inform the computer monitor connected to it when it is in an energy-saving state ("stand by", "suspend" or "Power Off") should switch. To do this, both the graphics card and the monitor must support DPMS.
