Spacer ring

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A spacer ring (or a spacer sleeve , a spacer tube , spuds ) may be used whenever between two components either a distance must be created (distance), or when it is necessary to bridge a distance / relining. From a distance sleeve , a spacer tube or spuds is spoken when the mold is tube-like.

Areas of application

  • In construction, for example, to create a distance when fastening a wooden or steel beam along a wall to ensure rear ventilation.
  • As a lining piece to enlarge a round component in diameter so that it fits into a pipe clamp. (For example, to combine the round LNB with brackets from different manufacturers and diameters in satellite systems )
  • A spacer ring is included in the continuously variable automatic V-belt transmission of a scooter. It serves as a stop for the moving half of a V-belt pulley, thereby reducing the maximum gear ratio. If the spacer ring is removed, the maximum speed increases. Removal can lead to the expiry of the operating license in Germany. If you grind it off, you can never say exactly how fast the scooter will be afterwards, as all scooter models are different and have different gear ratios etc.
  • Spacer or intermediate rings are used in cameras with interchangeable lenses between the lens and the camera housing in order to obtain a larger image scale for close proximity.
