Ain al-Arab district

The Ain al-Arab district ( Arabic منطقة عين العرب, DMG Minṭaqat ʿAin al-ʿArab ) is a Syrian district in Aleppo Governorate . It is located in the northwest of the governorate and borders on Turkey . The 2004 census showed a population of 192,513. The administration of the district is located in the city of the same name Ain al-Arab . The district achieved international fame through the battle for Kobanê . The district is part of the settlement area claimed by the Kurds in Syria, better known as Rojava or "West Kurdistan".
