The Dithmarscher Kohltage is a regional festival that has been taking place in the Dithmarschen district since 1986 and takes place in late September. The festival, based on the southern German wine festivals, is intended to honor the importance of cabbage cultivation for the region and also to promote tourism .

The festival includes the choice of two cabbage regents (Dithmarschen has a long anti-aristocratic tradition, therefore no queens), several cabbage and vegetable markets, the cabbage EXPO in Wesselburen , as well as Heiermann and three-thaler dishes in almost all restaurants on the basis of cabbage. On the Cabbage Days, the harvest of the vegetables is officially initiated with the cabbage cut .

Dithmarschen has been Europe's largest contiguous growing area for cabbage since the late 19th century. Approximately 80 million heads of cabbage are grown on around 2500 to 3000 hectares, depending on the year.
