Dividends (waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dividenden is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 252). The work was performed for the first time on January 15, 1861 in the Dianabad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was composed for the then newly founded Association of Austrian Industrialists and premiered at a ball of this association in the newly renovated Dianabad Hall, on a branch of the Danube (now the Danube Canal). It was dedicated to the committee of this society. The name of the work refers to the profit distribution (dividends) from stock ownership and was therefore suitable for the industrial association.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 23 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
