Dixie Davis

Dixie Davis , actually J. Richard Davis ( 1905 - December 30, 1969 ) was an American lawyer. His best known client was Dutch Schultz .

Life

Davis graduated from Syracuse University and was inducted into the New York State Bar in 1927 . After completing his training, he set up his own law firm in New York, specializing in the defense of bullies . Many of his clients were African Americans who were involved in illegal number games . After the murder of Dutch Schultz in 1935, Davis took over his business until he was convicted of fraud by a grand jury on July 14, 1937 . Due to his cooperation with the judiciary, he was sentenced to only one year in prison. In addition, his license to practice law was revoked. In 1969, Davis died of a heart attack when two armed intruders entered his home in Bel-Air . The two masked men tied his wife and grandson and stole jewels, furs and cash.

Adaptations

The character Tommy Farrell from the film The Girl from the Underworld is based on him in the broadest sense.
