Diyalog TheaterFest

The Diyalog TheaterFest is a theater festival in Berlin organized by Diyalog eV, which has endeavored to promote an intercultural exchange between German, German-Turkish and other immigrant groups' stages since 1995.

In addition to plays for adults , the program of the annual event also includes children's plays , exhibitions , concerts and panel discussions . There are also workshops for young and youngest artists.

The overarching goal of the events is the cultural encounter .

The organizers of the Diyalog TheaterFest want according to their own announcement

  • Create a platform for artists and artist groups from other cultures living in Berlin on which they can present their work
  • Present high-quality and innovative productions from abroad to the Berlin audience, as well as promoting cooperation between international artists and contributing to the development of a European network of migrant theater
  • motivate the young generation and the public to draw their attention to art and to advise them on it

In addition to four Diyalog productions, the first theater festival in 1995 had numerous guest productions from other Turkish and German theater groups in the program. In the years that followed, after the interest from both the audience and the media increased, there were performances in Persian, Greek, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Dutch and English. In the first 10 years, a total of 170 productions were offered, which were seen by around 40,000 visitors.

The Diyalog TheaterFest is now financially supported by international sponsors such as the Japanese embassy in Berlin , the Italian cultural institute in Berlin , the embassy of the Netherlands in Berlin , the Turkish embassy in Berlin , the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Romanian cultural attaché . Today it can be described as a recognized forum of theater by and for migrants of many nationalities and cultures living in Berlin, an indispensable part of the multicultural life of Berlin.
