Doberschütz (noble family)
Doberschütz is the name of an old Silesian noble family with their headquarters in Plau in what is now the Polish district of Crossen (Oder) .
The first documented mention of the von Doberschütz family is with Hans von Doberschütz (approx. 1440 – before 1499), landlord on Plau (after 1486) and Purschwitz in today's Bautzen district . Finally, a David Ernst von Doberschütz (approx. 1600–1670) is mentioned, still a master on a part of Plau.
coat of arms
The coat of arms of the von Doberschütz family shows in a red shield the inverted Latin letter S in white, in the middle with a white ribbon with flying ends. Occasionally an inverted black S with a red band was also found in the white shield. Three white lilies with green stems and leaves stand side by side on the closed helmet. The helmet cover is white and red.
Whether this family had a common family origin with the Silesian von Dobschütz family centuries before , genealogists have never been able to prove. But this assumption is probably allowed due to the similarity of both coats of arms (inverted letter S in the red shield, Doberschütz : with a white band in the middle of the letter, Dobschütz : with a white cross on the top left of the letter)
