Dog Island is a small island in the Southland region off the south coast of New Zealand's South Island . It is located on Foveauxstrasse , about 3 km southeast of Bluff .
On the island is the Dog Island Lighthouse , registered with the Department of Conservation as a category 1 monument , with a height of 36 m the highest lighthouse in New Zealand, and an aircraft landing strip.
